I am not a Biblical scholar. I have always been surrounded by the Bible life, from family devotions to AWANA, from bible studies to church every Sunday, and then going to a Christian college. I loved the Bible classes I took in college, but I never took more than what was required, since I was an Education major and didn't have time for anything else. But I do love learning, and the Bible is no exception to that. 

I didn't plan on being a teacher of the Bible, outside of Sunday school, or my own children if the Lord willed. But God had different plans for me when I accepted the job at RTCS. 

As the teacher of 3rd and 4th grades, Bible is one of the classes that I took on after accepting the position. About a year and a half later, I can confidently say it's one of my favorite things to teach, despite having minimal training. There's just something so exciting about getting to help kids see how exciting God's Word can be. 

One reason I love teaching the Bible is that it forces meto dig deeper. In order to teach the stories, I have to know the stories. I get a chance to really think about what the main point of the passage is, and why kids need to know about it. It's also been fun as I do my own personal devotions to read through passages that I have taught in class and remember all the things we talked about with it, and the new insights the students brought up. 

That leads to another reason I love teaching the Bible, because my students ask some of the best questions in Bible class. Sometimes they have thought of things that I hadn't even considered, since we all are reading the Bible from a different perspective. There have been several times where my students have asked a question that I simply don't have an answer for, which gives me the opportunity to point them in the direction of their parents or their pastor. It also usually intrigues me enough to want to try to look up the answer on my own, which deepens my own understanding of the Bible. 

Memorizing scripture has been another huge part of why I love teaching Bible. I'll be the first to admit that memorizing scripture has unfortunately not been as much of a priority as it should be. But because my students are required to memorize scripture passages, by default, I am learning it too. There is no greater way to combat the sin in this world than by hiding God's word in our hearts, and I am so thankful that my job gives me the accountability to do it. I've also been privileged to lead the singing for the Grammar school devotional time, where I have been teaching a few different Psalms to the kids. There is no greater joy for me than to see the 5 year olds and the 12 year olds, all gathering together to sing the Word of God! 

As I watch the students at RTCS learn and grow, I can't help but be astounded at the amazing ways they are taking in God's word at such a young age. I had a great education and family life, but I had never read so much of the Bible by the time I was in 4th grade as these students have. They are getting an education that is going to prepare them in far greater ways than any other textbook ever could. I am so thankful for the opportunity to teach at RTCS, because I get to play a tiny role in spreading God's kingdom here on earth.
