FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What grades does RTCS include?

RTCS offers pre-school through 12th grade, all at one location.

Is RTCS associated with a church or denomination?

RTCS is an independent school that teaches from a reformed Biblical perspective. We are not associated with any specific church and our teachers attend PCA, OPC, or RPCNA reformed Presbyterian churches. Our student body is diverse in its religious affiliations and is represented by 18 churches from various denominations.

Who are your teachers?

The teachers at RTCS are dedicated Christians who have received degrees in accredited colleges and universities and are either certified by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania or are working toward that certification. They are selected on the dual criteria of Christian commitment and exceptional competence in teaching. Several of our teachers hold master’s degrees in their respective disciplines.

How long has RTCS been around?

In 1978, RTCS began educating elementary students and over the years grew to include pre-school through 12th grade. It has served Pittsburgh and areas west for 40 years.

Does RTCS offer financial assistance?

Yes! Please visit our “Financial Assistance” tab on this website for more information about what is available. Note that among private Christian schools in the greater Pittsburgh area, our tuition rates are among the lowest. Our rates improve the more children per school year a family enrolls, which means families with multiple children enrolled receive discounts.

Does RTCS offer sports?

Yes! RTCS Rams Soccer Team for boys and girls in grades 7 through 12 is part of the Southwest Christian Athletic Conference (SWCAC) competing against other member schools in Southwest Pennsylvania in the fall. RTCS Track & Field competes in invitationals with SWCAC and other Christian schools in the spring as well as meets attended by both private and public schools at Baldwin, Peters Township, and others. All students must participate in formal physical education classes per state requirements. Students with injuries or other physical or medical challenges may receive credit by completing alternative assignments.

Does RTCS have fine arts opportunities?

RTCS offers classes in formal visual arts, music, and choir for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. High school students have the option of joining the extracurricular Show Choir. Interested students in grades 4–12 can audition for the spring musical to become part of the proud tradition of outstanding stage productions of the RTCS Drama Department.

What about other extracurricular opportunities?

RTCS now offers a Robotics Club that will be competing in an annual competition. There are multiple opportunities for service either through the Community Service Club or other events scheduled during the year.

Is free school busing available?
