TRACK & FIELD

RTCS Track & Field is the longest running RTCS sports program, beginning in 2000. Throughout our 22 seasons, RTCS student-athletes have experienced success at both the individual and team level.

The Rams compete in invitationals with other Christian schools and in meets attended by both private and public schools. In a typical season, student-athletes will travel for meets at California University of Pennsylvania, Geneva College, Grove City College, and Messiah College, as well as Shadyside Academy and other area high schools, traveling as far as Bangor Memorial Park in Bangor, PA, for the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) Northeast Region Track & Field Championships for both middle and high school.

RTCS Track & Field was established in the spring of 2000 when Mr. Eric Gelston served as its first coach. Mrs. Kathie Marino took over as head coach in 2004. Former PIAA state competitor and collegiate hurdler Douglas Smith joined the coaching staff for the 2005 season in a part-time capacity. He assisted Coach Marino full-time during the 2006 season and took the head coaching reins for the 2007 season and continues through the present. Coach Smith received his Technical Coaching Certification and the Sprint, Hurdle, and Relay Specialist Certification from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Association's (USTFCCA) Track & Field Academy in 2011 and 2020, respectively.

Coach Smith initiated the annual RTCS Track & Field Invitational in 2007, now planning for its 17th year.
